Manufacturing line tests: Functional testing of over 1 million washing machines a year

IRS, National Instruments Certified Alliance Partner, delivered the fully automatic functional testing system for a manufacturing line producing washing machines and washing-dryers. The system makes a functional test of each single appliance manufactured : over one million a year. A central database contains all the acquired test data and results.

The system hardware includes

• 26 automatic test benches, 40 quality test bench, 5 fault analysis test stands, each with NI Compact RIO for test configuration and robotic control, data acquisition, PLC communication;
• Sensors and transducer enabling the verification of firmware sequence, electrical consumption, water consumption, drum speed, air and water temperature;
• A supervisory PC for test configuration and data transfer to MS SQL database as well as a configuration PC where the test engineers can define the test sequences;

The LabVIEW developed software allows the configuration, management and storage of the test sequence of each appliance. Specific test stands allow fault analysis and statistical process control and verification.
