Structural health monitoring of the roman amphitheatre Arena di Verona

IRS, National Instruments Certified Alliance Partner, supplied Structural-X, a structural health monitoring system, checking the ancient roman amphitheatre Arena di Verona, located in Verona (Italy). The monitoring system measures and stores static and dynamic signals in order to make vibrational monitoring and fracture continuos control.

    The system hardware includes :
    • Six wireless slave devices ( using WSN 3202) acquiring data from 20 displacement sensors and from 4 ambient sensor (temperature and relative humidity)
    • Three cabled slave devices (using NI 9144, 8-Slot EtherCAT Slave) acquiring data from 16 synchronised accelerometer and from 4 ambient sensor (temperature and relative humidity)
    • A master device (using NI 9792, programmable WSN Gateway) and a supervisory PC. All accelerometers data are synchronized using the EtherCAT timing properties.
    The software application includes
    • Supervisory software developed in Labview™. It allows configuration, data acquisition and automatic computation of derived parameters by means of professional structural analysis
    • NI 9792 LabVIEW Real Time master software and NI 9144 LabVIEW FPGA slave software for timing and measurement
