‘A Nivarata – Il Festival della Granita Siciliana!

La granita è sicuramente uno dei prodotti tipici siciliani più noti ed apprezzati in tutto il mondo. Non esiste siciliano o turista che possa resistere ad una deliziosa colazione estiva a base di fresca granita, accompagnata dalla caratteristica brioche, che, invece, va servita calda!

Il rito della granita è un piacere che allieta le estati dei siciliani da secoli. Fin dal medioevo, infatti, i così detti “nivaroli” si occupavano di conservare la neve nelle “nivere” dell’Etna, ed in estate scendevano a valle a bordo di carretti, con il loro carico di ghiaccio e neve da rivendere ai benestanti cittadini, che si rinfrescavano dalla calura estiva, preparando sorbetti e gelati con il ghiaccio grattugiato, unito a spremute di limoni o sciroppi di frutta. Col tempo, le tecniche produttive si raffinarono, consentendo ai maestri gelatieri siciliani di produrre granite sempre più cremose, al gusto di limoni, gelsi, mandorle, pistacchi, caffè e tanti altri.

Il festival ‘A Nivarata nasce ad Acireale, dal desiderio di raccontare la storia di una terra meravigliosa, patria di tesori gastronomici e culturali. In questa splendida città Barocca, che sorge sulla Timpa (costone lavico a picco sul mare, oggi riserva naturale), con alle spalle l’imponente Etna, scrigno di bellezze da vedere e gustare, la granita è da sempre un’istituzione cittadina, autentico prodotto d’eccellenza degli storici bar della città.

Oggi ‘A Nivarata è una vetrina speciale per la produzione artigianale dolciaria siciliana. Il programma della manifestazione (link al programma), che quest’anno si svolgerà dal 13 al 16 giugno, prevede una serie di incontri, dibattiti, degustazioni, visite guidate, mostre e spettacoli, che culmineranno nell’elezione della granita vincitrice dell’annuale concorso!

IT’SICILY sarà presente con un proprio stand situato in Piazza Indirizzo, accanto agli stand per la degustazione delle granite, presso cui potrete trovare una selezione di irresistibili Prodotti Tipici Siciliani (miele di Zafferana, pistacchio di Bronte, marmellate dell’Etna, conserve di mare e di terra, olio extravergine e vini siciliani…). Granita is definitely one of the most typical Sicilian products, known and appreciated throughout the world. There is no Sicilian inhabitant or tourist who can resist a delicious summer breakfast made from fresh granita, accompanied by the characteristic brioche, which, however, should be served hot!

The rite of granita is a pleasure that gladdens the summers of Sicily for centuries. Since the Middle Ages, in fact, the so-called “nivaroli” took care of the snow in “nivere” of Etna, and in the summer went downhill aboard carts, with their cargo of ice and snow for resale to wealthy citizens, which refreshed themselves from the summer heat, preparing sorbets and ice cream with ice crumbs, combined with freshly squeezed lemons or fruit syrups. Over time, the production techniques were refined, allowing Sicilian ice-cream makers to produce more and more creamy granita, with flavor of lemons, mulberries, almonds, pistachios, coffee and many others.

The festival “‘A Nivarata” born in Acireale, for the desire to tell the story of this wonderful country, home of cultural and culinary treasures. In this splendid baroque city, which stands on the Timpa (lava ridge overlooking the sea, now a nature reserve), behind the massive Etna, trove of beautiful things to see and enjoy, granita has always been a city institution, authentic excellent product of the historic cafe in the city.

Today ‘A Nivarata is a special window for traditional Sicilian confectionery. The program of the event, which this year will take place in June, from 13 to 16, includes a series of meetings, debates, tastings, tours, exhibitions and shows, culminating in the election of the winner of the annual granita competition!

IT’SICILY will be present with a stand located on Indirizzo Square, next to the stands for the tasting of granite, where you will find a selection of irresistible typical Sicilian products (Zafferana honey, Bronte pistachio, Etna jams, sea ​​and land preserves, olive oil and Sicilian wines…).
